And they work on that basis because as you can see in the Asiana incident, one side of the aircraft is a lot more damaged than the other — and appears to be the main area of the fire — so you wouldn’t want to open the doors on that side.

Wages may be lower compared to Americans also but it doesnt necessarily mean that they are underpaid in their home countries’ standards. They are paid very well actually, look it up. The examples you cited are simply not backed by any facts actually. You are alluding that maintenance may be inferior to offset savings they offer their western customers but Asiana has only had two crashes since the 70’s and have a better track record than most American carriers. How do you know if American carriers aren’t cutting corners to maximize profits and deal with greedy unions? Last thing, I’ve been around employees of Asian carriers and trust me, their training is thorough and difficult which should be no surprise as this sort of strictness is present in many Asian cultures.
